We continue our Meet Us Mondays by introducing ‘Atalina Pasi, who will be joining the Ka Hale Hoonauauao, the Learning Institute here at Papa Ola Lōkahi, as Populations Health Specialist for Chronic Disease.
‘Atalina was blessed to be born and raised in Ko’olauloa with grandparents who were farmers in Kahuku. Cultivating and taking care of the ‘aina was engraved at a young age from her grandparents who came to Hawai‘i from Tonga. ‘Atalina learned on the farm that hard work yields.
‘Atalina graduated from Kahuku High in 2004, began studying at BYU-Hawaii in pre-med. ‘Atalina took a break from studies to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the San Salvador, El Salvador West Belize mission where she was able to pick up the language and serve the people by educating them about good hygiene, teaching them life skills, teaching them how to treat their drinking water by boiling to prevent the spread of disease, English classes, and more. ‘Atalina returned to BYUH and graduated with a BS in biology minoring in biochemistry. ‘Atalina is currently a graduate student in HPU’s public health program hoping to graduate in 2022.
‘Atalina came to us from Ke Ola Mamo, where she served as the Community Health Worker, advocating and sharing resources and information with her community. Her community service includes sitting on the Ko’olauloa Neighborhood Board as the Kahuku rep, a director on the Kahuku Community Association Board, co-founder and board member of Lahui Foundation, Ko’olauloa representative on the Cross Island Community Resilience Network, Kahuku rep for the Ko’olauloa Amateur Radio Network, Ko’olauloa rep for the Act 57 Mediation Windward Hui and a committee member of the Pilina Fund for the Harold K. L. Castle Foundation.
At Papa Ola Lōkahi, ‘Atalina is the Population Health Specialist for chronic disease. She believes strongly that most chronic diseases can be prevented through healthy lifestyles, which will shape her to approach.
‘Atalina was married in 2013 to Sioeli Moala and they’ve been blessed with 5 beautiful children.
